Rolex 24: A blast!

I attended the Rolex 24 race again. I believe this marks the 4th consecutive year for me. This years race started at 332p on Saturday and ended on 332p Sunday. 4 cars finished on the lead lap which shattered the old record of 2 cars. The weather, which was below freezing the morning before, was actually perfect for the entire weekend. Last year the weather was cold - near 40, very windy, and it rained! It was shitty.

After getting off of work Saturday morning at 8a, I went straight to the Speedway in the hopes of being able to drive into the infield. I got in with no problem. I set up camp in a grass RV spot (#53) back by the Ferris Wheel. The RV spot was sweet b/c it had electricity and water setups for each spot. I set up the tent, table, umbrella ella eh eh, and stove. I had some cool tent neighbors on both sides. Infact, one guy used to play Professional Football for the 49ers years ago. Lots of women there also. hehe.

Oh yeah, I also got burglarized too just after I went to bed. According to my neighbor who was laying with one eye open on an airmattress under the stars said that a few kids from a few tents down were in my cooler and stole a few beers. Punks! lol. I think they only got 3 bottles. I had the rest in another cooler. haha. Anyways, I think that was a violation of the MTL (More Taste League).

Plenty of activities kept me busy throughout the day and night. lol. It was quite thrilling to be camping inside the infield. It cost me $15 for a student ticket and $20 to drive into the infield. Very inexpensive weekend for alot of fun. Lots of camp fires burning and I didn’t realize how much I and all my stuff smelled like smoke until after I got home and showered. Wow. The smoke smell was quite overpowering.

I only have a couple of pictures from this years event which I will post soon. I mean, you seen one race/stuff, its all the same after a while.

Daytona colder than Midway

First off: Global Warming my cold ASS! lol.

Daytona Beach is sometimes colder than Chicago. Though this is more likely during the summer months, it is rare to have it happen during the winter months! It looks like the tables have turned! Now you guys get to rub it in. haha. Apparently, this occured because of a phenomenon called Global Warming! haha. Enjoy.

Its not just cold, but it’s freezing cold!

A few pictures from the frost that gripped the Daytona Beach area both Thursday & Friday, Jan 22 & 23rd respectively. Thursday morning, KDAB asos only got down to 26. From midnight to 8a the temp varied from 26-31 degrees depending on the wind direction. Areas west of the airport experienced frost that made the ground, trees, and buildings turn white. Friday morning, more moisture was present with dew points up around 28 degrees. This made more for a picturesque landscape.

Tom Skilling from WGN-TV featured Thursday pictures on the Weather Blog

I’m glad the cold air is only visiting and will be exiting the region tomorrow! haha. Wearing a leather jacket and gloves is not exactly fun down here. I know, I know, I hear the violins playing. haha.

I’m on a diet

A few days ago, I started a new diet. With the help of a personal trainer, we have developed a plan that will not only put a few pounds on me, but also get me buff. I am taking several supplements, drinking weight gaining shakes, keeping track of my Calories & Protein, and working out on a regular basis. I have 2 goal dates and I look forward to meeting this challenge.

Reflection: What could have been

I could be working part time in Daytona, living with my gf in Clearwater 5 nights a week, and living a life that would make people fill with Jelousy. All this would have been if Kathy and I were still together. Oh well.

This senario would have finally put us together and bring us closer than ever before. We could have taken the next step in our relationship. Life would have been freaking awesome and sweeet! Oh well.

Believe it or not, I thought our relationship was growing stale or had grown stale starting early last summer. It became routine and repetative. I believe we had reached a plateau. In hind sight, I believe that I did all I could given our long distance apart, work schedule, and our environement. I think what I should have done is moved in with Kathy in August 08 instead of taking the weather obs gig in Daytona. If I had done that, I honestly believe we would still be together - stronger than ever before!

Looking back, our demise was due to mainly a communication breakdown. Also, I believe Kathy wasn’t ready for the next stage in the relationship, wasn’t ready for comittment to me & the relationship, and was scared. Was scared probably b/c both of our parents were divorced. This day and age, whose parents are still together? Not many. But you know what, if 2 people truly love each other and believe in each other, then the relationship will work. Heck, we survived many challenges but when communication is lost…all hope is gone. Kind of like the Titanic.

I have moved on and doing quite well considering. Life is good again. And though I have quite a few walls up…when I meet that special someone again, I will let her into my heart again.
