I talked to airplanes and I got handcuffed

I had a tour of the Sheriffs helicopter hangar today. The helicopters looked pretty sweet. I’ll post some pictures soon. The sheriff (Chris) said don’t touch anything. Well, I was leaning in the cockpit and before I knew it, handcuffs were placed on me and I was put in the back seat of the helicopter for transport. After some negotiations, I was released.

Later that afternoon, I spent some time observing the Clearance Delivery (CD) and Flight Data (FD) position. The guy on position told me to issue the next clearance. Just before I keyed the mic, the hear was racing, legs shaking, and arm shaking as well. I did alright. I read a few more after that. I also did some strip marking, updated the atis, and a few other tasks. Remember, I was just up there to observe but ended up working a little. It was nice.

Tomorrow (Friday), I will be graduating from the classroom. Saturday I will have off. Sunday I will begin tower training on FD/CD position. Sunday I believe will be spent monitoring the position. Monday should be the first day working it. During my OJT (on the job training), I have to log “X” amount of hours monitoring and working the position before I can “check” out on that particular position.

This weekend is up in the air a little for me. Not sure if I will be swinging out to Ft. Myers Sat morning to meet up with Kathy.
