Bears game flat, Beer list is still flowing, and a night at Rain

To catch the last Bears preseason game, I ventured over to the Ale House. Some people from Naperville noticed this tall, sexy, good looking, and well tanned young man wearing a bears shirt walking around aimlessly looking for a tv with the game on. They invited me to sit at the bar with them. Awe. W/e. I stayed for 3 depressing quarters but thank god I had a beer! haha. After the 3 quarter, I met Kathy at my place and we ventured to Mkay’s to finish off our 4 beers on our list….well at least we thought.

We found out that the crossed off beers (which means they don’t carry it any more) still needed to be substituted for another beer that they do have thats not on the list. Well crap, that added another a few more beers to our list. Needless to say, we didn’t finish.

It was our friends Sandra’s B-Day, so we traveled over to Rain Club to see if she was still alive and shakin. She was! What a very interesting evening, but it was great to see her having a great time and enjoying her B-Day. That Cuban can dance. :)  Kathy and I didn’t stay long b/c the drinks are very expensive ($5 for a bottle of beer) and we were getting tired. Plus, Sandra couldn’t keep her hands off of me and Kathy was getting pissed off! Just kidding. I wish though— Cat fight, meow, hiss. It was getting close to 2am when we left.  Overall, a very good night.

Kathy gets St. Petersburg

My gf Kathy, found out that she was offered St. Petersburg tower. She accepted. Kathy knew she was getting terminal but was kinda hoping for a TRACON/ATCT aka up-down facility (Terminal Radar Approach Control Facilities/Air Traffic Control Tower). St Pete is a level 7 tower where as an up-down facility could be a 9 -11 on a scale up to 12. She could possibly be CPC (Certified Professional Controller) at that facility in about 6-9 months. Congrats to Kathy!

It will still probably be several months before she leaves Daytona for her training in Oklahoma. She still has a background check, Class A medical, and a few other requirements to take care of for the FAA. She has not been offered an Oklahoma date yet.

7/24ths or 7/25ths pound burgers?

Ma and Rob paid a visit to T Love’s hideaway Tuesday night. Wednesday, we hit the beach and grilled. Rob got a free beach sticker pass and was finally able to ride his Jeep on the sand. We played some bags and boogie boarded and worked on our tans. I’m getting darker each day. Soon, I’ll be a mexican. Just call me Pedro.

We bought 2.25lbs of hamburger meat and made 8 burgers. While I was chopping up the onions and peppers, we were trying to determine what was inbetween 1/4 and 1/3. After some discussion, we ended up computing how much each burger wieghed. Rob and I concluded with 7/24ths. However, while eating the burgers, Kevin got in on the discussion. After each one of us reaching for calculators, it was determined that each burger was 7/25ths of a pound.

But we didn’t stop there. I posed the question of “What’s the difference between 7/24ths and 7/25ths?” After some more discussion, it was determined to be 7/600ths of a lb.

This burger discussion felt like a Darren moment. :) It was great.

Today

Ma and Rob are visiting later this evening and should be arriving by 10pm. In the meantime, we are heading to the beach for a few hours. While Kathy is at work tonight, Kevin and I may grill or play some poker or just be lazy.

I caught a foul ball at the Cubs game

Yesterday, Kevin, Kathy, and I hit the beach for a few afternoon hours. Interestingly is that alot of the soft sand that was present which doubled the size of the beach only for the past 5 weeks…is gone. Just like that. The beach south of ISB is back to the old way which is hard as a rock. At least its driveable.

Kathy had to work yesterday evening so Kevin and I went out for dinner and a pitcher of beer at Hog Heaven BBQ on A1A. Then we proceeded to the 7p game across the river. Fun times at the game to say the least. I wish I would have gone to more this summer. Free parking, free programs, and free food. As it turns out, tickets were $10 instead of $7 because it was belly buster monday. Yep. We were a little disgusted about that. But we did down a few 32oz beers and had some free burgers throughout the game. We also got some free tickets to a game in Brevard county, some other coupons, and best of all, I caught a foul ball.

I just got done sending out a text message and folded up my phone to put it in my pocket. Just as I put the phone away, I looked up and noticed a foul ball heading straight for me curving slightly to my right. I didn’t even flinch (probably b/c of the beer I was consuming). The ball hit the back of the bleacher right next to me. Kevin yells to me…”Marty, grab the ball”. So I reached down next to me and picked it up. The lady sitting in front of the where the ball landed had her fingers feeling for it, but I got it! She couldn’t see the ball.

After the game, Kevin and I hit up Mai Tais for a pitcher. And that concluded Monday!

FU….oooooh that smell - the smell that surrounds you

In weather observing per the 7900.5b, FU is the abbreviation for Smoke. This morning, Daytona woke up to a dissipating fog that was replaced by smoke. I figure a fire is only a few miles west of here. Visibility has been reduced to 1sm at times but it appears to be moving out of the area at the time of this posting. If you every have been camping by a fire or smelled burning leaves, thats the smell that surrounds us. After a few hours of this, my clothes smell like smoke. Yuk.

Last night

Kathy and I hit up Froggers for $0.35 terryaki wings. mmm, good. Then we headed over to Mkay’s for $2 bottles. We are almost done with our list. Only 8 more to go! I think we will finish up on Monday.

Today, I’m kind of lazy. Every now and then I get the gumption to take care of something. Oh BTW, Chicago had it’s 15 - 90 degree day yesterday. There may be another shot of warmth next week.
